• Gamblin Galkyd Drying Medium is our fastest-drying painting medium. Thin layers will be touch-dry in approximately 24 hours.
• Galkyd thins oil colours and increases transparency and gloss. When used in greater proportions with oil colour, Galkyd will level brush-strokes, creating an enamel-like surface.
• Galkyd contains Gamsol. The main difference between Galkyd vs. Galkyd Lite is that Galkyd contains less Gamsol, making it a thicker fluid consistency. You can dilute Galkyd with additional Gamsol, this is recommended for underpainting and fluid washes.
• Gamblin painting mediums (Galkyd, Galkyd Lite, Galkyd Slow Dry, Galkyd Gel & Neo Megilp) are made with alkyd resin – a highly polymerized soy oil, and Gamsol- a mild, slow-evaporating odourless mineral spirit. Alkyd resin dries by solvent evaporation, so the introduction of any air space into a newly opened bottle (or other container used for decanting) allows for solvent evaporation and drying.

• Galkyd Lite Gel (formerly called Neo Megilp) is a softer gel medium, it does not have the same thickness as Galkyd Gel.
• Galkyd Lite Gel increases transparency and flow, and imparts a smooth, silky feel.
• Galkyd Lite Gel has a moderate dry time rate of 3-4 days and remains workable for hours.
• Unlike the other Galkyd mediums, Galkyd Lite Gel gives colors a satin gloss rather than a high gloss finish.
• Galkyd Lite Gel makes slightly thicker layers which retain their own texture. Galkyd Lite Gel is formulated with Gamsol and is a favourite for transparent glazing techniques.

• Gamblin Gamsol Odorless Mineral Spirits is a solvent and medium used for oil painting. It allows oil painters to utilize all traditional painting techniques without compromise.
• Gamsol is one of the the safest solvents.
• Gamsol is a petroleum distillate but all the aromatic solvents have been refined out of it, less than .005% remains. Aromatic solvents are the most harmful types of petroleum solvents.

Primary Uses for Gamsol include:

• Thinning oil colours: A little goes a long way; stiff oil colours relax immediately when a little Gamsol is added. Be careful not to thin oil colours too much with solvent alone, this can compromise the ability of the paint to form a paint film.
• Modifying painting mediums: Our Galkyd line of painting mediums are formulated with Gamsol, so they readily accept Gamsol as a thinning agent. Note: Gamsol should not be added to painting mediums made with natural resins (dammar, copal, mastic). They require strong solvents such as turpentine.
• Studio clean-up: brushes, palettes, palette knives, etc.
