  • Why should I buy Derwent Watercolour paints?

Derwent Watercolour paints have been expertly formulated with fine art quality ingredients and lightfast pigments to deliver an ultra-smooth finish.
Each colour is highly pigmented and behaves consistently for ease of use, preventing unwanted, uneven results. Perfect for students, beginners and experienced artists.
  • Why are the Watercolour paints in a pan rather than a tube?

Pans are more convenient as they are less messy and are easier to travel with. The Derwent Watercolour paint pan is compact, light, and portable and includes a Derwent Waterbrush and integral mixing tray.
  • How is Watercolour different to Inktense?

Watercolour provides a translucent colourful laydown that can also provide pale washes. When dried it can be re-wet for continued washing.
Inktense is water-soluble, ink-like and delivers an intensely pigmented and vibrant laydown. When dried, it is permanent unlike Watercolour paint, and cannot be re-wet, this results in its exceptional layering capabilities. Inktense can also be used on a variety of porous surfaces including fabric.
  • What does “prevents uneven results” mean?

Unwanted results may include patchy areas or uneven washes. This is caused by small particles of undispersed pigment in the wash which can appear gritty. Derwent Watercolour paint has been formulated to have a smooth appearance, meaning colours will perform and look how you expect them to.
  • How many colours are available in the Watercolour Paint Pans?

Twenty-four colours are available in the Derwent Watercolour range and all colours can be mixed to create a full colour spectrum.
  • Are Derwent Watercolours lightfast?

Yes, Derwent Watercolour Paint is made from fine art highly lightfast pigments.
  • What is the best way to activate the dry Watercolour pans?

Add plenty of water to activate the dried paint using your brush to pick up some water and swirl it around gently on the surface of the pan.
It helps to activate all the colours you want to use before you start painting – so your work will not start to dry out while you are mixing other colours. A good tip is to leave a drop of water on each pan for a few minutes to soften and create a nice layer of wet paint on the surface.
A spray bottle or spritzer is extremely useful – simply spray across your palette to activate all your paints at the same time.
  • What is included in the palette sets?

The set includes our compact waterbrush and 12 or 24 Derwent Watercolour half pans with a mixing palette on the inside of the set lid.
  • What material is the set made from?

The pocket-sized set is manufactured from a lightweight white plastic that is intended for re-use and can be refilled with your favourite colour pans. It is sturdy and compact for convenience and portability.
  • What is the best paper to use with Derwent Watercolour Paints?

To get the best results from your Derwent Watercolour paints and ensure smooth results we highly recommend you use a high quality 300gsm watercolour paper.
  • What is the best brush to use?

The set includes a compact waterbrush, which you can simply unscrew to fill the barrel with water. Perfect for painting on the go or taking to class. The Derwent Watercolour paints will also perfectly partner with your favourite brushes and Derwent Waterbrushes.
