Basic guide on how to use Daler Rowney FW Acrylic Inks for various pouring techniques:
Preparation and Mixing:
Think about your colour design before preparing your pouring mix with FW Pouring Medium and System3, Aquafine, or FW Acrylic Ink.
Start preparing your pour in glasses or paper cups with a ratio of 1:1 medium to ink.
Transfer half of the ink into the medium and stir thoroughly with a palette knife or stick. Finish adding the rest of the ink and stir until you are happy with the fluidity and colour intensity.
Pouring Techniques:
Prepare as many colours as you like upfront.
Test the fluidity by lifting the palette knife out of the mixture; if it flows smoothly off the palette knife, you are ready to pour.
For a Traditional Pour, premix your colours and add each one to the desired surface separately.
For a Dirty Pour, combine multiple premixed colours into one container and pour from there to create unique patterns.
Puddle Pouring involves adding colours in a controlled manner to the center of the previously added colour.
Flip Cup technique entails flipping the container onto the canvas, allowing the paint to combine into new shapes.
Drying and Finishing:
After pouring, place your canvas on a flat surface and let it dry for 24 hours.
It is recommended to apply a shockproof clear varnish to protect your design and prepare it for display.
Surfaces:
Daler Rowney FW Acrylic Inks are suitable for use on various surfaces, including canvas, wood, and other primed surfaces.
However, for optimal results when using these inks, it is recommended to prepare your surface and test on a small area in advance to ensure compatibility and desired effects.
Hot press paper is a good option for using Daler Rowney FW Acrylic Inks. The smooth, untextured surface, is ideal for use with watercolours, and also works well with acrylic inks. The smoothness of the hot press paper can provide a consistent surface for the ink to flow, allowing for precise details and even washes.
