  • General’s Layout Extra Black Pencil 555 is an extra smooth, black, thick graphite pencil used for preliminary sketches, laying out drawings before painting, adding intense blacks and shading in graphite drawings, and for writing if a very dark and soft line is preferred.
  • It is equivalent to an Ebony Pencil and is a standard size, round pencil with very soft (6B equivalent), heavy, black graphite.
  • The General Pencil Company, operating since 1889 in the USA, produces this pencil, which is pre-sharpened and widely used by artists for its smoothness and versatility.
  •  These pencils have been used by animators since the 1930’s.
